The Canyon Police Department released more information about an earlier incident that closed down access to the 1700 block of Sixth Ave. on Tuesday.

According to a report from Canyon Police, officers were called to a home on the 1700 block of 6th Ave. for a welfare check.

Police found an individual who was threatening suicide and acting erratically in the garage. Officers said they tried to enter the home but could not get in and after trying to get the person to exit the home they barricaded themselves.

A negotiation team was called and was able to get the person to leave the home and into the custody of the police.

The Cayon Police Department said the individual was taken to be evaluated by medical professionals.

Update (1:47 p.m.)

Officials with the Canyon Police Department said as of 1:03 p.m., the area of the 1700 block of Sixth Ave. in Canyon is now open.

CANYON, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Officials with the Canyon Police Department are asking residents to avoid an area of the community due to police activity.

According to a post made on the department’s Facebook page, the Canyon Police Department is asking residents to avoid the area near the 1700 block of Sixth Ave. because of police activity. Officials said they will update when the area has been cleared.
