Update: Nov. 10, 8 a.m.

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – The Amarillo Fire Department released further information on a fire that impacted a structure in downtown Amarillo on Wednesday night, which officials noted was the old Panhandle Laundry & Dry Cleaning building.

According to the department, crews responded to the area of SE 2nd and South Pierce Street at around 9:30 p.m. and found a large, two-story, vacant commercial building showing heavy grey and white smoke. Although firefighters were initially unable to find the source of the fire due to the heavy smoke, crews did force open a door and successfully extinguish the fire.

No injuries were reported, said the department, though the Fire Marshal’s Office is still investigating the cause of the fire. Officials also noted that it was the second time that the old Panhandle Laundry & Dry Cleaning building has burned, and asked community members to be alert for trespassers near abandoned buildings.
