UPDATE: Crews responding to fire south of Dumas; Est. 1920 acres, 95% contained; HWY 287 back open

DUMAS, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — UPDATE: According to officials on the scene, crews are expected to be out until midnight. Officials say the fire started in the median, but information is limited at this time and the cause of the fire is unknown. Officials say structures were threatened but no evacuations were necessary.

According to the Texas Forest Service website, the fire is estimated at 1920 acres burned and is 95% contained.

According to crews on the scene, Highway 287 is back open as of about 8:00 p.m.

Original Report: Crews are responding to a grass fire near Dumas.

According to Dumas Dispatch, the fire is outside of Dumas on U.S. 287 going south, and as of 5 p.m., the highway is closed.

The Texas Forest Service website said the fire is estimated at 2500 acres burned and is 50% contained.
