Officials with Cannon Air Force Base officially commented on the death of Shaun McNair. This comes after McNair was in an accident early Wednesday in Curry County.

“From the day that A1C Shaun McNair arrived on Cannon AFB, his personality shined bright. From the start, he quickly became a member of the Water and Fuel Systems Maintenance Family,” U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Daniel Griffin, 27 SOCES commander said in the release. “We came to know Shaun as a confident, can-do Airman. Shaun was well-liked and his affinity for Anime established a strong bond with the members of his shop. Needless to say, he became fast friends with every Airman in the shop. He stood out as a technician because of his willingness to learn and was a trusted member of the 27th Special Operations Civil Engineer Squadron. We will all miss him and his personality dearly.”

According to the statement, McNair was a water and fuels apprentice from the 27th Special Operations Civil Engineer Squadron and graduated basic military training in April

“We are heartbroken by the sudden loss of A1C Shaun McNair,” U.S. Air Force Col. Terence Taylor, 27th Special Operations Wing Commander said in the release. “Our hearts are with Shaun’s family and friends during this difficult time. Our focus now is to care for and support Shaun’s family, his friends and his fellow Airmen with the various resources and support mechanisms that we have in place to help anyone that may be impacted by this loss.”

UPDATE (5:13 p.m.)

The Curry County Sheriff’s Office released the name of the Cannon Air Force Base airman who died in a single-vehicle accident Wednesday.

According to the sheriff’s office, Shaun McNair, 20, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, was going west on US 60/84 when the vehicle left the roadway and hit a tree before overturning. The sheriff’s office said he died at the scene.

The investigation of the crash is still ongoing.

CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. (KAMR/KCIT) — An airman with the Cannon Air Force Base was killed Wednesday in a vehicle accident, according to a news release from the base.

Officials said in the release that the airman, who was not identified, was killed in an accident on 60/84 East in Curry County on Wednesday. Officials said the name of the airman is being withheld until 24 hours after the next of kin is notified.

The incident is under investigation by the Curry County Sheriff’s Department, the release said.
