Update: June 15, 10:30 a.m.

CANYON, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – The Canyon Police Department released further information regarding the Tuesday night arrest that caused a road closure in the 2700 block of 5th Avenue.

According to the police, officers served three warrants for 35-year-old Shayne Messer at around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the 2700 block of 5th Avenue, which included; Motion to revoke probation on an aggravated assault, fraud with intent to obtain a controlled substance, bail jumping and failure to appear.

Officers reported that Messer tried to evade police and ran into a nearby apartment, which had a 32-year-old woman and a three-year-old child inside as well as a six-year-old child outside. The Emergency Response Team and negotiators were called to the scene after “multiple” attempts to contact Messer and the woman inside the apartment.

In another attempt to escape, officers said, Messer broke through the apartment wall into the neighboring, vacant, apartment.

Officers reported that the Emergency Response Team negotiated Messer out of the apartment and arrested him around 10:30 p.m., with no injuries involved in the incident.

CANYON, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – Announced by the Canyon Police Department in a social media update, streets were reopened to traffic at around 11 p.m. Tuesday night after a suspect from an ongoing incident was taken into custody.

“We appreciate the community’s support as CPD worked through this situation.” said the department.
