Cpl. Jeb Hilton, the public information officer with the Amarillo Police Department, said that the department is working to identify the person who was found in the lake Monday. Hilton said the body was found at the southeast corner of the lake, close to Lakeview Drive.
Hilton said that the body found was a male, but they do not have an age. Hilton stressed that there is no reason to believe at this point that foul play was involved, but said that an autopsy is expected to provide more information.
“It’s hard to say how long the body had been in the water,” Hilton said. “There’s going to be an autopsy and some things that will tell us a little bit more. But it definitely had been there overnight.”
Hilton reminded the public to avoid standing water, stating that they should not drive into it or walk into it.
