Amarillo police are continuing to engage the community to discuss problems affecting our area.
Their latest topic is online safety.
Cpl. Jeb Hilton told us they will be talking with parents about their children’s online activity and how to discuss potential risks.
“Things to look out for, things that your children don’t know are harmful to them that we need to look at parents, predators that are definitely out there. Identify theft is a big thing,” said Cpl. Hilton.
Cpl. Hilton said these topics are very important especially with the younger generation because they tend to overshare.
“We have to stress to them not giving out your address, your phone number, your birthday, or even the school the go to because that could be something that gets you in trouble with a predator or someone else,” he said.
Along with watching your child’s activity, police want you to look over their demeanor and attitudes.
“If you see noticeable changes then there is probably something going on that we need to look into,” said Cpl. Hilton.
If you are interested in attending the program, it is happening on October 25 at the Amarillo Police Department at 6 p.m.
Parents can bring their children.
