AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — A Regular Meeting of the Amarillo ISD Board of Trustees was held July 19, at 5:30 p.m.

During the regular meeting AISD Board Members discussed their plans for the ESSER III grant.

District leaders heard public comments on how they should spend the funding they receive.

They considered approving a resolution regarding the grant for teachers, assistants, and substitutes.

The district could receive up to $70 million from the incentive.

“The pandemic has caused a pretty tremendous learning loss in students, and we see that in Amarillo ISD just like we do everywhere else. And so the ESSER funding that we’re going to receive from the federal government will allow us to specifically target learning loss from COVID-19, from the pandemic,” said Chris Tatum Executive Director of Human Resources, Amarillo ISD.

All funds the district receives form the grant must be spent by the 2025-2026 school year.
