AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The Amarillo Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the area of 10th and Harrison St. in the evening of Friday, Oct. 29.

AFD said crews were called to 303 S. Harrison at around 8:45 p.m. on a reported structure fire. Upon arrival, they found a large two-story abandoned building with heavy smoke showing, according to a press release.

The release stated crews were able to extinguish a large part of the blazes outside of the building before entering it to search for victims and contain the rest of the fire. AFD said no one was injured.

According to the Amarillo Fire Marshal’s Office, the fire started in the basement of the building, but what caused it has not been determined yet. They also said there were multiple transients living in the building, which in the past housed the Amarillo Globe News offices.
