Local craft brewery close to selling beer to go

News

One local craft brewery is now just one step away from being able to sell their product to go.

After the passing of House Bill 1545 in the Texas House of Representatives in late April, Long Wooden Spoon Brewing in Amarillo is closer to being allowed to sell their beer to go.

As the only stand-alone brewery in Amarillo, LWS Brewery Co-Owner and Head Brewer Jared Read said if this bill passes through the Texas Senate it would do wonders for his business

“50 percent or more of our customers are travelers. They’re passing through. They’re coming through Amarillo, more and more are stopping at breweries everywhere they go. If they can take our product with them, that would increase our sales dramatically,” said Read.

Currently, Texas is the only state where craft breweries are not allowed to sell their beer to go.

A Senate committee will meet tomorrow to decide if the “Beer to Go” amendment will make it to the Senate to be voted on.
