Local Athlete Honored for Work in the Community


A West Texas A&M University football player is being honored for his work off the field.

Offensive lineman Dillon Vaughan was named to the 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team earlier this season.

Vaughan has been enjoying some time in New Orleans with the rest of the Good Works Team at the Allstate Sugar Bowl. 

He even got a chance to give back to the community with the two-time national champion and Heisman trophy winner Tim Tebow, and multi-nominated and award-winning pop band Imagine Dragons, as they helped refurbish the APEX Youth Center through the Allstate All Hands program.

Vaughan has made a positive impact through his ‘good works’ including:

  • Serving as the Help-A-Child chairperson on the S.A.G.E. (Students Assisting ‘n Good Endeavors) executive committee where he has helped with events such as the Fall Festival, Special Olympics basketball tournament, Easter Egg Hunt for elementary students in the community, Bikes for Tikes, Cookies with Santa for local children’s home, Dance Marathon for Children’s Miracle Network, Bingo Nights at The Connor House Nursing Home, Team Tatum Dodgeball Tournament and Work-A-Thon
  • Assisting in bracelet and concession sales, weekly bake sales and raffles to benefit Make-A-Wish
  • Speaking with elementary school students and campus alumni on behalf of the SAAC
  • Helping his family to host the Superhero Ball, benefitting an orphanage in Uganda through Children’s Hope Chest
