The League of Women Voters hosted a lunchtime program on local refugee services earlier today. Visitors are welcome, and attendees will order individually from the menu.
Area director for Refugee Services of Texas Natalie Lowe spoke with attendees. She told the group, Refugee Services provides nine services for refugees, including resettlement, services to unaccompanied children, legal services, job readiness training and employment, English language training, and a survivors of trafficking empowerment program.
“With refugee and immigration issues currently being discussed in our state and national legislative bodies, we thought this would be a timely program to help us know what is taking place with refugees in Amarillo and the Panhandle,” said Sylvia Perkins, LWV program vice-president.
