West Texas A&M baseball was in a prime position to take both games of a doubleheader Saturday against Angelo State and reverse their standings in the Lone Star Conference.
Instead, the Buffs surrendered late leads in both games one and two, as the Rams swept WT.
In game one, the Buffaloes led 5-1 entering the sixth inning, but the relief duo of Justin McAlister and Kyle Tinius couldn’t keep the lead, surrendering six runs as the Buffs fell 7-5.
In game two, WT was staked to a 5-1 lead entering the eighth inning before ASU got to McAlister and then Tinius again. The Rams rallied for six runs in the frame and held on for a 7-6 win.
With the three losses, WTAMU is now three games behind Angelo State and Texas A&M-Kingsville for first place in the conference.
WT will host Eastern New Mexico for a three-game series next weekend.
