Today is “World Read Aloud Day” and Amarillo ISD is wanting to highlight the importance of literacy and reading in front of others.
At Forest Hill Elementary, teachers read “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” to students and dressed up as characters from the book.
Students also got a chance to read on their own and complete assignments related to their experiences.
“This day is about helping our students visualize and really go into their books, and what better way to help them visualize their books,” said Forest Hill Teacher Blanca Ortiz. “We show them different books and we’re dressed as the characters.”
At San Jacinto Elementary, kindergartners got to Skype with Julie-Segal Walters, the author of “This is Not a Normal Animal Book.”
Meaghan Collier also took part in today’s fun. She went to Lakeview Elementary in Canyon and read to students there.
