AMARILLO - Amarillo's Homeless Outreach providing encouragement or Hope Program is set to begin at the beginning of next month.
Hope seeks to create an innovative, proactive approach to connect Amarillo's homeless population to the community's support services.
This is part of the city's on-going commitment to move this population from crisis to stability and beyond.
The city council approved the program last year.
"We believe that putting a person into a home is the solution to homelessness. And since the first of the year, we have been able to help 17 of our clients to sign leases and we have provided supportive services afterward to ensure their success," said Chris Seright, Amarillo Housing First Executive Director.
This is a pilot program where community clean-up activities will be offered to homeless persons at least twice a week for about six hours a day.
