Hollywood Minute: “Nina” Casting Controversy!

“Nina” has some people seeing red!

The biopic about singer and civil rights activist Nina Simone stars actress Zoe Saldana, whose ancestry is Dominican and Puerto Rican and whose skin appears darkened for the role.

Simone’s family slammed Saldana on twitter but BET founder Fobert L. Johnson, whose company is distributing the film, defended the casting in a statement, saying Saldana “gave her heart and soul to the role,” and that “quality of performance should never be judged on the basis of color, or ethnicity, or physical likeness,” but by “the sheer force of creativity and the commitment that an actor or actress brings to the performance.”

“Nina” opens April 22nd.

A behind-the-scenes documentary, deleted scenes and more await when you bring “The Force” home!

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” will be available as a digital download April 1st, and on Blu-ray and DVD April 5th.

Dedicated fans who studied the trailer for the “Ghostbusters” reboot spotted a URL amid the equations on Kristen Wiig’s white-board for “paranormal studies lab dot-com.”

The site features a video with a real-life scientist who consulted on the film, to help make the ghost trap and proton pack technology “with as few huge leaps of miraculous science as possible.”
