Holiday Shopping Season Kicks Off With Black Friday

News

You ate the turkey and finished the pumpkin pie, so it was time to burn off those calories by shopping.

Santa Claus found in center court, decorations hanging from the ceiling, sale posters in windows are all signs that today is officially shopping season.

While the sales are nice, what made people get out and head to Westgate Mall?

“We have two of our three kids home for Thanksgiving and we’re just here to see a movie actually and had some time to kill, so we thought let’s go to the mall and see what’s happening out there,” Connie McLain, Black Friday shopper said.

“They have a lot of great sales. I’m noticing the stores have a lot of different things, 40 percent, 50 percent off, they’ve got some pretty good deals out here,” Ken Spencer, Black Friday shopper said.

Even kids turned their day off of school into a day at the mall.

One local kid, Dominic wanted to look at clothes and be able to try them on.

Brothers, Christian and Mason came to the mall strictly for the deals.

Black Friday is known to draw a crowd, but by this afternoon, the crowd was manageable.

“We kind of thought there would be more people than what we’ve seen. So, it hasn’t been bad actually,” McLain said.

With Cyber Monday just around the corner, do people shop more online or in-store?

“In-store, I like to touch and feel the product I buy,” Spencer said.
