Heart of the High Plains: Mindfest at Don Harrington Discovery Center

News
You’re never too young to start learning and never too old to learn something new.

That’s the mindset of the people at the Don Harrington Discovery Center.

They’re constantly bringing in new exhibits; always giving the people of the panhandle more to fill their minds and get their hands on.

For the day, you can be a musician or a geologist studying the earths movements.

Soccer player.

Entomologist.
At the Don Harrington Discovery Center you pretend for just a moment, to be anything you want to be while learning about almost anything.

DHDC Executive Director Dr. Aaron Pan said, “It lets people come in to have a great time, they get to be entertained and learn a lot they also get a lot of opportunities to basically dabble into different topics they don’t typically get to see on a regular basis and again there is always something new to do here.”

It’s a great place to inspire inquiring minds with exhibits hand picked by dr. Aaron pan and his team.

“It’s for families, it’s for adults, it’s for basically we are very big promoters of life long learning and basically always learning about the world around us.”

Students from five states take field trips to the center during the school year and learning doesn’t stop during the summer with special camps and events, like Mindfest coming up later this week.

“We have Mindfest which is on August 5th and basically it is an event where basically its sort of a tinkering arena for everybody. so you get to come in see all sorts of neat things, we have Tandy Leather coming in they’ll be making bracelets , they’ll be able to disassemble a car, break apart a car if you’ve ever wanted to do that, legally.”

“It’s a nice way to sort of unwind right before the school year starts again .”

If the discovery center and Mindfest are appealing to your curious senses: You can join the fun at the discovery center on Saturday, August 5th. It’s an all day event from 10 to 4. Admission is $11 for adults and $8 for kids.
