Heart Health in the Elderly

An irregular heart rhythm may affect the physical abilities of older adults.

While all seniors lose balance, strength and speed over time; A new study found atrial fibrillation sped up these declines to an equivalent of four years of aging.

Researchers say even a small drop-off in physical function can trigger a loss of independence, decreased mobility and a poorer quality of life.

Researchers say these results don’t prove a cause and effect. They say other factors, like inflammation or accelerated muscle loss may contribute to both conditions.
