Personal protective equipment (ppe) worn by health care workers can reduce the risk of contamination, but may not eliminate it completely.

Workers at four different Ohio hospitals were analyzed while they removed gloves and gowns contaminated with fluorescent lotion.

Researchers found more contamination of the skin and clothing when the equipment was removed incorrectly but even when the proper technique was followed, there was contamination in nearly one-third of the simulations.

Experts say more work needs to be done to find the most effective way to decrease contamination of this equipment.
