#ThutCreekFire in Gray County 90% Contained; Estimated 7,334 Acres

UPDATE: 5:54 P.M.:

 Texas A&M Forest Service said it's burned 7,334 acres and is 90% contained. They said a 145-acre burn out was conducted last night when a direct attack on the fire with dozers was not possible due to the topography. Officials with the Gray County Sheriff's Office said all roads that were closed last night due to the fire have reopened.

 

UPDATE: 12:00 A.M.: 

According to the Texas Forest Service, forward progression of the Thut Creek Fire has been halted. 

Incident Update: #ThutCreekFire in Gray County. Firefighters have stopped progress of the fire tonight and will be conducting burn outs. Fire remains an estimated 4500 acres and 65% contained. Firefighters will staff fire through the night and tomorrow. #txfire

UPDATE 10:53 P.M.:.

According to the Texas A&M Forest Service, crews reported at 15 homes were threatened by the fire, but were saved.

 

UPDATE 9:47 P.M.:

According to the Texas A&M Forest Service, the fire is 65 percent contained at 4,500.

UPDATE 9:22 P.M.:

According to the Gray County Sheriff's Office, Hwy 152 from Pampa to Wheeler County is now open. The only road still closed at this time is Hwy 1474. There is still active fire in this area please avoid if at all possible.

UPDATE 7:53 P.M.:

According to the Texas A&M Forest Service, the fire is estimated at 4,500 acres and 30 percent contained.

UPDATE 6:55 P.M.:

According to the Texas A&M Forest Service, the fire is estimated at 1,500 acres with 0 percent containment. 

 

ORIGINAL:

A large fire has caused evacuations and has shut roads down in Gray County.

According to the Gray County Sheriff, Robert Baker, the fire jumped over Highway 152 and is moving northwest. 

The Lindell Dairy has been evacuated. 

Highway 60 is currently closed, as is County Road 16. 

Travel from Pampa to Miami/Wheeler has been stopped.

The Sheriff is asking that people please stay out of that area.

He says there is no traveling East

Seven different volunteer fire departments are working on that fire.
