The owner of G&M Farnsworth Transmissions, Gene Hurt gave away a 2001 Jimmy 4X4 to local citizen Roxy Maddox. The car was donated to Hurt and he decided to pay it forward. He rebuilt the transmission and cleaned out the car so it was ready to give away to a single mom or single grandmother.
He was inspired to give away the car to a single mother because his mother was a single mother and passed away last year.
“Single moms have a special place in my heart,” Hurt said. “Nothing makes me more upset than to listen to someone complain because they came from a single parent household. My mom accomplished the feat of raising four great kids.”
Maddox said that she has had a rough year financially and emotionally. After having trouble with her previous car, it officially died in September. Her daughter took her to G&M Farnsworth Transmissions today. She told Maddox it was to pick up a part for her boyfriend’s car but Maddox was instead surprised with her new car.
“I had no idea I was getting a car,” Maddox said. “My daughter brought me, and I was thinking why are we even here. Then I saw the cameras. I’m so grateful, so thankful, so blessed.”
