A new study estimates 40-percent of kids and teens were directly involved in more than one episode of violence, crime or abuse within the past year.
More than one-third experienced a physical assault largely from siblings and peers, and 15-percent were mistreated by a caregiver.
Five-percent experienced a sexual offense with teenage girls at the greatest risk.
And nearly one-fourth witnessed violence in their own family or community.
These results are based on survey responses of four-thousand children age 17 and younger.
10 percent had six or more direct violent experiences and 1.2 percent had 10 or more.
