Lower the numbers and raise the funding, that’s what Mayor Harpole would like to see when it comes to refugees in Amarillo.
The Mayor recently met with state lawmakers about the number of refugees in our area.
He told members of the senate that Amarillo has the highest population of refugees per capita in the country.
Harpole says those large numbers are putting a strain on the city’s resources especially when it comes to the school system.
Mayor Harpole says if more agencies are established across the state, to help refugees with the transition, we can provide better service, without putting a dent in the system.
