Felony Charges Against Clovis Airmen Dismissed, DA says

News

Felony charges against three airmen in Clovis have been dismissed. That announcement was made by Ninth Judicial District Attorney, Andrea Reeb.

The charges stemmed from what officials said was the airmen’s alleged involvement in a reported sexual assault against another airman last year.

The three defendants, Isaiah Edley, Thomas Newton, and Rahman Buchanan, were due to be jointly tried last month, however, the trial was continued due to the unavailability of defense counsel.  Prior to the dismissal, the case was scheduled to be tried in June of 2019.

The district attorney’s office said the dismissal is without prejudice, meaning that if additional evidence comes to light, the case may be re-filed.

They also said they are talking with officials from Cannon Air Force Base about this decision.

The three airmen had been released on bond pending the trial on the matter.
