This morning, Amarillo Police responded to a wreck at NW 12th Ave & N. Adams.
Responding officers determined that a 2015 Ford SUV traveling southbound on N. Adams ran the stop sign, t-boning a 2009 Cadillac traveling eastbound on NW 12th Avenue.
The Cadillac came to rest in the vacant lot on the southeast corner of the intersection.
The SUV continued south for about a half block before striking a parked vehicle and coming to rest in a yard on N. Adams.
The driver of the SUV fled the area on foot. Officers arrested him about two blocks north of the scene.
The driver of the Cadillac, 69-year-old Melchisedec Jackson, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver that fled was transported to the hospital for medical clearance and to the APD for investigation. His name will be released when he is booked into jail.
An autopsy has been ordered by JP Gary Jackson.
This incident is being investigated by the Traffic Investigation Squad of the Amarillo Police Department.
