Family of Missing Canadian Teen Wants Answers

After eight months the family of a missing Canadian teen wants answers and they are taking the investigation out of the hands of local officials.

After an evening with friends, Thomas Brown went missing the night of November 23, 2016, in Canadian. Brown was due home at midnight but never made it.

His family, community, and law enforcement have joined forces to find Brown but said the case is no closer bringing Brown home.

Brown’s car was found in a remote area near Canadian the morning of his disappearance. Then in January, Brown’s backpack was found near a road outside of Canadian.

Brown’s cell phone has not been recovered, and records show the phone has not received calls or texts since the night he went missing, but the family told us there has been no new information since then.

Today at the press conference, Brown’s family publicly thanked law enforcement involved in this case.

Penny Meek, Brown’s mother said the family is frustrated with the lack of new information and leads.

The family said they need answers and they have decided it was time to turn the investigation over to the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas Rangers.

“I have asked the sheriff to go ahead and turn over to the state now rather than wait,” said Penny Meek. “We know that these are uncharted waters and that everyone involved has to the best of their ability worked to find answers.”

The family continues to ask the public to come forward if they have information that could lead to a break in this case.

Hemphill County Sheriff Nathan Lewis said he does not yet consider this a cold case.

There is a $40,000 reward for information leading to finding Brown.
