(KCRA/NBC News) An emotional remembrance ceremony was held Sunday in honor of fallen California firefighter Braden Varney.

Varney was killed on July 14 while working on a containment line around the Ferguson fire, burning near Yosemite National Park, when the bulldozer he was operating rolled over.

Varney was a second-generation heavy fire equipment operator at Cal Fire, just like his dad. The father-and-son team often worked on the same fire line, according to Cal Fire.
