AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) - The Amarillo ISD Board of Trustees has named Doug Loomis as the lone finalist for superintendent.
The district said Loomis has worked in every cluster at every level in AISD.
The school board appointed Loomis to serve as the interim superintendent last fall.
In January, Trustees voted to open the vacancy to internal applicants.
“I started here in AISD fresh out of college as an elementary teacher. I met my wife, a fellow elementary school teacher, during those early years of my career here. We raised our son and daughter in the schools here. This District is intertwined in the fabric that makes up my family and some of the best years of my life,” Loomis explained. “I’m honored to have the opportunity to be here leading this great district forward and working on behalf of the students and teachers.”
Loomis served as the district's chief human resources officer for the past five years.
State law requires a 21-day waiting period before Trustees can make the appointment final.
