Eating nuts during pregnancy


Eating nuts early on in pregnancy could be good for your child’s brain development.

Spanish researchers followed over 2,000 mother and child pairs for eight years.

The kids whose moms ate more nuts during the first trimester of pregnancy scored higher in tests measuring their memory, attention and cognitive function.

However, nut consumption during the third trimester showed no impact.

Experts believe the high levels of folic acid and essential fatty acids that are found in nuts may have played a factor.

The nuts studied were walnuts, almonds, peanuts, pine nuts, and hazelnuts.
