Each Year Contaminated Food Causes 420,000 Deaths And 600 Million Fall Sick

An apple a day is supposed to keep you out of the doctor’s office, not bring you to it.

A UN report states that contaminated food causes more than 600 million people to fall ill annually – while causing 420,000 deaths worldwide.

A group of world organizations came together Tuesday to discuss this issue at the first International Food Safety Conference.

Among the organizations in attendance were the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization, the World Health Organization, and the World Trade Organization.

They concluded that unsafe food affects all aspects of a country’s economy including burdening healthcare and impacting trade and tourism.

The conference intends to identify ways to ensure and strengthen the commitment to making food safe for consumers.
