News

Texas DPS has released the name of the person who died yesterday in a wreck south of Channing.

According to DPS, a passenger, Jaciel Longoria-Acosta, 26, of Dalhart died on scene.

Officials said the driver of that same truck, a 26-year-old from Dalhart, was air-lifted to Amarillo with life-threatening injuries. He was later flown to OU Medicine Trauma One in Oklahoma City where he remains in critical condition.

According to DPS’ preliminary crash investigation, vehicle one was driving north behind vehicle two. That is when the driver of vehicle one told Troopers said vehicle two “slammed on his brakes” due to another vehicle that was parked on the shoulder of the road.

DPS said vehicle one swerved across the center line and into the path of a third semi-truck. Vehicle three, containing the 26-year-old from Dalhart and Longoria-Acosta, hit the trailer of vehicle one, splitting the it in half, crossed the center line, and hit vehicle two.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
