FBI Issues “Smart” Toy Warning

The FBI is alerting parents to privacy risks from internet-connected toys.

So-called “Smart” toys can contain sensors, microphones, cameras, data storage, even GPS or speech recognition that could disclose personal information.

The advisory cautions in some cases, toys with microphones for example, could collect conversations- potentially sharing information like the child’s name, school, and activities.

The Bureau advises consumers to examine toy company user agreement disclosures and privacy practices.

Netflix Subscribers Up

Netflix is still adding subscribers by the millions.

Netflix says it added more than five million new subscribers from April to June.

That’s two million more than expected.

Also during that time period, Netflix crossed the milestones of 100 million members and more subscribers outside the US than in the US.

But customers aren’t watching as much, average viewing time has dropped by about 25 minutes in the past three months.
