An Amarillo man is brutally beaten, leading to his death nine days later and police are asking for help finding a suspect.
In June, Amarillo police were called to a home in the area of 8th and South Nelson on reports of a fight.
Once there, police found 33-year-old Richard Porras badly injured.
“It was pretty evident the person had been involved in some type of altercation just based on the evidence we saw just on his upper body, he was definitely injured with what we believe was some type of object in addition to other weapons, maybe hands, feet, we aren’t really clear,” said Lt. Erick Bohannon with the Special Crimes Unit.
Porras was taken to the hospital in Amarillo then later to Lubbock, where 9 days later he later died.
Lt. Bohannon says police were only able to speak to one witness at the scene.
“We had one witness out there who was giving a very vague rendition of what happened but it didn’t really prove to help us at all in our case, we are right now sitting at a loss as to who did this to this gentleman.”
Bohannon says they’ve searched for more witnesses but are hoping to find more people with helpful information.
“We do neighborhood canvases, things like that and we haven’t had any luck trying to find anybody else who might’ve witnessed anything, so we are hoping maybe someone who was there might be able to come forward and tell us what happened.”
If you have details on Porras’ death, you are encouraged to call the Special Crimes Unit at 378-9468.
