City of Amarillo: Help Reduce Mosquitoes by Registering Your Tire Business

News

To help lower the amount of mosquito breeding grounds and unsightly abandoned tires, the City of Amarillo’s Building Safety department would like to encourage tire businesses not yet registered to contact them regarding the scrap tire ordinance.

The ordinance has been in effect since December 2016 and the City currently has approximately 50 registered tire related businesses.

This ordinance seeks to decrease illegal dumping practices, reduce the number of breeding grounds for mosquitoes and rodents which carry disease, deter questionable tire transporters, and require more accountability from scrap tire facilities. Tire businesses, including any establishment where tires are collected, repaired, processed, recycled, scrapped, sold, bought, or stored are required by the ordinance to register their business with the City’s Building Safety department.

For more information on the tire ordinance or to find out how to register your business, visit http://amarillo.gov/scrap_tires or call the Building Safety department at (806) 378-3041
