PRESS RELEASE FROM THE CITY OF AMARILLO
City Manager Jared Miller, during the regularly scheduled meeting of the Amarillo City Council Tuesday, July 17, announced a new assistant director of public works. With 22 years of experience in public works, Donny Hooper joins the City of Amarillo’s team after an extensive recruitment search.
Hooper comes to the City from the City of Pampa where he was the director of public works. In addition to that role, he also served as the public information officer, overseeing media communications for all City departments.
Hooper is a life-long Texas Panhandle resident, growing up in Borger, living and working in Amarillo in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and spending the last 25 years in Pampa. He is a certified public manager from Arizona State University, holds numerous emergency management certifications, and serves on the Texas Emergency Management Assistance Team where he was recently deployed to Hurricane Harvey to manage public works assets for the State Operations Center.
“I am very excited to be a part of the team here in Amarillo,” says Hooper. “The people here are really incredible and are so focused on making a positive impact to those who live, work, and visit Amarillo.”
