Every year letters are sent out to citizens in Potter County to join the Texas Sheriff’s Association.
Sheriff Brian Thomas says if citizens join they get to be well informed on what is happening in the law enforcement world but also donate money.
That money goes towards training for officers.
“It is beneficial to us as a sheriff’s office because a lot of times your sheriff’s offices are really limited on budget and training money so it is another way for the citizens to help us out,” said Sheriff Thomas.
The trainings focus on issues happening around the state.
Captain John Coffee says it gives them the chance to network with other agencies.
“It’s a good opportunity to go to a class where you can meet with other officers throughout the state and exchange ideas and visit about different trends that we are seeing,” added Coffee.
Thomas says before you donate there is one thing to know.
“You’ll need to remember that we do not, they do not have anybody calling. You are only going to get this through the mail,” said Thomas.
The sheriff’s office will get a print out of everyone who donated then they will send thank you letters.
The letters will be sent out March 10.
