When it comes to your teen wearing makeup making all natural choices may be better for their health.

University of California at Berkely researchers discovered switching to chemical free cosmetics and shampoos quickly lowers levels of hormone disrupting chemicals in teen girls.

Parabens and other harmful chemicals known to interfere with young girls growth development are found in many fragrances, cosmetics, and hair products.

The study looked at 100 Hispanic teen girls who used makeup, shampoo, and lotions labeled chemical free for three days.

After this short break from their regular products, levels of hormone disrupting chemicals in their urine dropped as much as 45-percent.

Researchers say cosmetics sold in the US are tough to regulate or collect data regarding their health effects.

Findings appear in the journal “Environmental Health Perspectives.”
