Tamales are as much a part of Christmas in the Texas panhandle as cookies or reindeer.
The classic Mexican dish begins with traditional masa dough, filled with a variety of savory meats and then wrapped in corn husks.
You have the chance to show your tamale cooking skills or just eat tamales all for a good cause.
The Caprock Band Boosters are hosting a Tamale cookoff on December 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Caprock High School.
Tickets to taste Tamales are $10 each and can be purchased from a band booster or band student as well as at the door.
They are accepting cookoff entries until 7:00 pm they need to email Lbstover@live.com to enter. There is no fee to enter just provide at least 2 dozen tamales for tasting and judging.
All the proceeds will go to the booster account to be used for the upcoming trip to New York City as well as begin purchasing things needed for performances in concert season and next year’s marching show.
