The Canyon Chamber of Commerce will kick off their Independence Day Celebration with the Kickin’ it in the Canyon concert. The headliner is Texas country music legend Pat Green with Buster Bledsoe as his opening act.
The Independence Day Celebration is Canyon’ s biggest event of the year. Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Roger Remlinger said the festivities bring 20,000 to 30,000 people to Canyon every July.
“It’s ten deep on both sides of 4th avenue for the parade,” Remlinger said. “Everyone comes to kind of congregate here to enjoy great food, some music and our local vendors. So it is a pretty big day for us.”
Remlinger said what helps their event stay so popular is the traditions they continue from year to year.
“We try to keep it as traditional as possible,” Remlinger said. “Because really that’s what the 4th of July is all about. It’s not really about what we do here, but the meaning behind the 4th of July. And that’s what makes Canyon a very special place to celebrate.”
Still the chamber has made adjustments over the years to accommodate the crowds. That is why this year’s concert is on July 3rd instead of July 4th, so spectators will not be too tired at work the next day.
“This will be the first Texas country music artist we have brought in,” Remlinger said. “Pat sits on the Board of Texas Country music, so we’re really excited to see the response we are getting. We’ve pre-sold more tickets than we ever have.”
