Canyon baseball and softball look to extend seasons

The popular school of thought is that you want to be playing your best, when the games matter the most.

Exhibit A and B is Canyon softball and Canyon baseball as both try and extend their post seasons Friday night in Wichita Falls.

For the Lady Eagles, they meet Birdville in the Class 5A regional finals, a team that stifled Randall in their regional semifinal. Canyon has been impressive of late as well, having won 21 of their last 22 games.

“This is something that, ever since I got here three years ago we’ve been talking about,” third year Canyon softball head coach Nicole Coffee said Thursday. “The girls have totally bought in. We make goals at the beginning of every year and it’s something that we talk about every single day.”

Game one of their three game series will be at 7:30 Friday night at Wichita Falls with games two and if necessary three coming on Saturday.

For Canyon baseball, they’re back in the Class 5A regional semifinals for the third time in the last four seasons and will take on Grapevine. The recipe for the Eagles’ success during their post season run has stemmed from their offense striking early in nearly every game. But for all of the success this Eagle team has had this season, they’re hardly satisfied.

“I think you can look around in our dugout and I don’t think you’re going to find any contentment especially after last year the way that finished up,” Canyon head baseball coach John Doan said. “They got us in the regional semifinals last year, the same round that we are in currently and this team right here wants to be the one to get us over the hump.”

Game one of their three game set will be in Wichita Falls Friday night, with first pitch coming at 7:30.
