Valentine’s Day Spending Up-Participation Down

With Valentine’s Day just a little over a week away love is in the air!

Or is it?

The National Retail Federation said just 51-percent of adults plan to celebrate.

Spending for the holiday is still on the rise with Americans planning to spend an average of $162 on their loved ones.

Sales are expected to top $20-billion this year.

NRF found that for those skipping out on Valentine’s Day. They think it’s over-commercialized, don’t have anyone to celebrate with or they’re just simply over it.

The study also found that some younger consumers opt to mark the holiday differently by treating themselves instead or spending time with their other single friends for an anti-valentine’s day celebration.
