Former Sunray Police Chief Charged in New York Double Homicide

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that former Sunray police chief Timothy Dean has been arrested in connection to a double homicide in Sodus, New York, that according to our sister station in Rochester, WROC-TV.

During a news conference Monday night, Wayne County Sheriff Barry Virts said Timothy Dean has been charged with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree murder. Charlene Childers, Dean’s wife, is charged with conspiracy and criminal possession of a weapon.

The sheriff’s office said Dean shot both Joshua Niles, 28, and Amber Washburn, 22, in front of a home on Carlton Street in Sodus on October 22.

Dean and Childers were arrested last week on a charge of injury to a child, Dean in Sunray and Childers in Wayne County, New York. 

Back in May, Dean was arrested on one count of injury to a child and later resigned as police chief.

 According to WROC-TV, two weeks ago, friends told WROC Niles and Childers had been involved in a custody battle that ended with Niles getting the kids.
