Over 11 million spellers started a journey more than eight months ago in classrooms across America.
The city of Amarillo has two of the 565 total spellers in this year’s Scripps National Spelling Bee.
This year Jeff Zheng and Mehtan Rahman made it to Washington, D.C.
Jeff is 14-years-old and attends Ascension Academy, who also sponsors him. In his Spelling Bee’s bio it says “Jeff previously competed in 2017 (tied for 41st place) and 2018 (tied for 42nd place).”
Mehtan is 13-years-old and also attends Ascension Academy. The Amarillo Globe-News sponsors him. In his Spelling Bee bio, in his free time, Mehtan plays the cello, reads books, program things into his calculator and solves Rubik’s cubes anytime, anyplace, anywhere in under thirty seconds.
