Amarillo Police Searching for Monday Night Shooting Suspect

Mercedes Mireles

On Monday evening, Amarillo Police responded to the area of North Grand and Amarillo Boulevard on shots being fired.

Witnesses said that the driver of a red Ford Crown Victoria was shooting out of the window. Officers located the vehicle driving east bound on North East 3rd Avenue and initiated a traffic stop.

The driver refused to stop and drove east on North East 3rd to North Grand Street. The vehicle hit a curb under the bridge at NE 3rd and N. Grand causing one of the tires to go flat. The male driver exited the vehicle and ran on foot.

The passenger, 20-year-old Mercedes Mireles, moved over to the driver seat of the car and tried to leave the scene. Mireles was stopped and taken into custody.

Officers in the area searched for the male driver, but he was not located.

Mireles was arrested for three local municipal warrants and booked into the Randall County Jail. Anyone with information about the suspect who fled can contact the Amarillo Police Department or Amarillo Crime Stoppers at 374-4400. Tips can be made anonymously online at
