At 12:33 Friday morning, Amarillo Police responded to the I-40 and I-27 interchange on a single vehicle crash.
Officials say a 1999 Chevrolet 1500 had been eastbound on I-40 at a high rate of speed when the truck lost control, spun out and hit the south retaining wall, then slid eastbound along the wall for several hundred feet.
The driver of the truck was ejected from the vehicle.
He was taken to a local area hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Amarillo Police say speed, alcohol, and no seat belt being worn are all factors in this wreck.
The incident is being investigated by the Traffic Investigation Squad of the Amarillo Police Department.
