Amarillo Makes WalletHub’s “2019’s Healthiest & Unhealthiest Cities in America”

Location matters when it comes to health. Some places promote wellness by expanding access to nutritious food and recreational facilities. Others strive to keep healthcare costs affordable for everyone or keep parks clean and well-maintained.

To determine which areas prioritize residents’ well-being, WalletHub compared more than 170 of the most populated U.S. cities across 42 key indicators of good health. Our data set ranges from the cost of medical visits to fruit and vegetable consumption to fitness clubs per capita. Amarillo came in 148th out 180 cities listed and 12th out of 16 cities in Texas.

Amarillo was ranked:

  • Food -150th
  • Fitness – 142nd
  • Green Space – 141st

Amarillo has the lowest average monthly cost for a fitness-club membership, $13.67, which is 6.2 times less expensive than in San Francisco, the city with the highest at $84.36.
