The city is looking at allowing golf cart services to help transport people in downtown.
The City Council took a look at the idea of allowing businesses to hire golf cart providers to cart people from venue to venue.
The current idea is to allow an operator to be able to use the carts inside the central business district.
Those carts will have to meet safety requirements such as flashing lights, signs that say “slow-moving vehicle,” and insurance.
“It will be good to ease the parking demand in the very core area around the parking garage and around the civic center, the Hodgetown, and the Globe-News theater, but also it will push the available parking out because the golf carts have a bigger reach,” said City Manager Jared Miller.
Currently, the city is drafting up an ordinance. That is expected to be ready for the council to review next week.
