Amarillo High Head Volleyball Coach Resigns

News

Success and Amarillo High Volleyball have grown synonymous under the tenure of Head Coach Jan Barker.

Monday, after 31 years commanding the Lady Sandies, Barker told her team she would be resigning as their head coach.

Barker leaves Amarillo High with over 1,100 wins, and racked up 10 state titles, including her most recent in 2016.

An emotional Barker told MyHighPlains.com that 31 seasons is the longest she has been anywhere in her life, and that it was absolutely the best job she could have ever asked for.

Barker plans on spending time with her family. Her oldest daughter, who happens to be the head volleyball coach at Colleyville Heritage, just gave birth to her first daughter and consequently Jan Barker’s first granddaughter.
