Amarillo College Classes Over Premature Babies

Yesterday we celebrated World Prematurity Day, as part of Prematurity Awareness Month.
Now, health professionals gather to learn more about these preemies.

World Prematurity Day is recognized to raise awareness of preterm birth and the concerns of preterm babies and their families.

Saturday at Amarillo College doctors, nurses, and social workers took classes on issues surrounding these early infants including breastfeeding, sudden infant death syndrome, and babies born to parents with substance abuse problems.

But it’s not just mom’s who can do some good there were tips for dads too.

Amy Johnson-Rubio, the March of Dimes Director says “It’s really important for fathers to be involved. The dad of that baby is very important. Important to be helping mom take care of herself. But also to be healthy around moms.

This is the first time they’ve held this professional education event, but as they say, hopefully not the last.
